Windows XP Reinstallation (Service Pack 1)
I am working on a friend's computer - she was initially getting the Blue Screen - WINSRV was not found - so I am now trying to "repair" using Window's XP Installation CD. I get so far and another Blue Screen shows up Bad Pool Caller - I can't bring up Windows XP (not now or not even before) - I can't run DUMPCHK and have tried running CHKDSK from a Windows 98 boot disk with no luck.....please help

Chkdsk cannot be run from a Win98 boot disk if your file system is NTFS, because the boot disk's file system is FAT12, and NTFS is not recognized. Maybe you should look into building the BartPE disk, and start by running the built-in plugin of chkdsk from that CD:

What is BartPE and PE Builder?
Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.
It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support. Very handy for burn-in testing systems with no OS, rescuing files to a network share, virus scan and so on. This will replace any Dos bootdisk in no time!
Here's a website by one of our top XPerts, Fatal_Exception, which will give you more info on BartPE:
