Question : Troubleshooting serial cabling to a Squirrel POS using Hyper Terminal
|
|
I need to troubleshoot serial cabling to between a Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Squirrel POS boxes.
Can you detail the steps I need. I plan to use Hyper Terminal (will be a using 9600 n 1 setting etc...) Do I start up Hyper Terminal on both sides and is there such a thing as putting it in listening mode on the other end (WinXP box) as I will be initiating the connectivity test on the Win Server 2003.

Simply leave HyperTerminal in its default configuration which is generally 9600 N-8-1.
You must make sure you are plugged into the correct COM port and they are sometimes marked. So in setup in HyperTerminal select the correct COM port you have your cables connected to.
There is a little telephone symbol and when it is up you are connected. When down, you are disconnected.
Google how to use hyperterminal and you'll get a lot of info.
