Question : SBS 2003 service pack will not install

I am trying to install service pack 1 on a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003. Installing this service pack is a 4 or 5 step installation dealing with several different downloads but I can't get past the very first one which is the server 2003 service pack.
The installation freezes in the same spot every time. I have run error checks and sfc / scannow with no results. The installation gets to the point where the display reads that it is "backing up files" and the details say "backing up registry" and that is where it freezes.
The event log has error for MSDTC. - Thanks.
