Question : after removing rogue anti-spyware av2009 Internet Explorer will not connect

Internet Explorer hangs and when I try to close it, I get Internet Explorer is not responding. The original problem was AV2009 rogue anti-spyware. This was removed using Malwarebytes software. Everything was extremely slow...I did the following: ran CHKDSK /r from recovery console. It found and repaired some errors. I did a repair installation of Windows XP Home SP3. removed AVG Free...this all helped speed general response times..I now can pull an IP address with ipconfig and I can ping out on the web. I loaded Firefox and and navigate OK. What do I need to do to fix Internet Explorer?

Answer : after removing rogue anti-spyware av2009 Internet Explorer will not connect

I tried loading IE7 from CD...it failed. I went to IE troubleshooter but it opened with Firefox and wouldn't let me download anything. I went back and tried to load a repair of IE6...nothing showed up on the CD-ROM drive so I couldn't do that. I  downloaded IE8 beta, and it works.
I don't know what loading IE8 beta did to make it work...but all is good!

By the way, willcomp, I tried IEDef and it came up with no malicious software found.

jcimarron...I didn't try tio fix winsock since I was able to surf ok with Firefox. Thanks for the links..that will be good info to keep at the ready.
