Question : Can I sync two PDA's - one Palm OS, one Windows Mobile 5 - with Outlook 2003?

I have two PDA/smartphones that I would like to sync with the same profile in Outlook 2003.  One is a Treo 700w/Windows Mobile 5 and syncs using ActiveSync 4.5.  The other PDA is a Palm OS 3.5.3 phone that syncs using the Palm Hotsink Manager and Chapura PocketMirror Pro.  I would like to sync both with 1 PC and Outlook 2003 Profile.  The Palm OS smartphone is currently syncing without any problems.  I am concerned that installing ActiveSync and syncing the Treo 700w will break the Palm sync.

That is a valid concern.  I have seen this type of question when the devices used the sync program but never for 2 different sync programs.

Since no one else has posted yet I will at least provide a little info and an educated guess.  I would say the chances of success or a problem are about 50/50.  I don't think it will be with the install or anything serious that would prevent one or both from being uninstalled.  In fact according to the info at the bottom of http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(41224) the two can coexist.  I would encourage you to try it.  If you have a problem one way then uninstall both are reinstall in the opposite order (making sure one works before installing the other).

The likely problem will be in actually syncing both to Outlook.  I strongly suggest you make it so at least one of the devices only reads data from Outlook.  In other words the sync on is to PDA and not from it.  If both are allowed two-way transfer then you will most likely have some problem at some point.  Duplicates, lost info, etc could easily happen if both are allowed to send to Outlook.

Let me know if you have a question about this.  I'll be happy to provide what I can.  Good luck and let us know how it works. :)
