Hi Damoth1,
The age of a domain while quite valuable, is of no use if the domain registration information changes
Search optimizers had a field day till about a few years ago by buying up expired domains and redirecting them to other content.
In order to prevent this, Google now looks at the domain registration information and resets the value of the domain.. It then re-assesses the content (to verify if the old and new content is the same or not) and decides whether to re-assign the previous SEO equity to the domain or to start it afresh
In your case, if you're changing the domain registrant information, the age of the domain will not help, since in the eyes of Google, you have owned it for only a short period of time
Separately though, you may still want to consider the branding and ease of recall value of a .com domain which may be higher than a .net domain
