Question : New to video editing....

Experts,

Im new to video editing and would like some advise on the best approach to take.  Im working with vob files which i can quite happily convert to type of my choice (mpeg, avi, wmv etc).  My question is which of those file types is the easiest to work with?  My options for doing the video editing are Adobe Premiere and Windows Movie maker, again which would you recommend using??

My overall aim is to cut out lots of segments of video and splice them together, hopefully overlay some music as well.

Thanks in advance.

Answer : New to video editing....

Adobe Tools, but with Mpeg2 files not converted, but demultiplexed from vob. You'll have to realize that any conversion from one format to another is a loss of the movie quality.
...Or, if you have a powerfull machine with lots of diskspace, you can convert and work with a lossless format, or with avi uncompressed. If the only operation is cut and paste, working with native (demultiplexed) mpeg2 will avoid any recompression.
One of the best (and free) tool to demultiplex a dvd is vobedit http://www.ifoedit.com/, it will extract the video and audio (and subtitle) streams from the dvd video (vob files).
