Question : Folder Redirection and the Recycle Bin
|
|
Hi Everyone,
I have a problem with folder redirection. WinXP SP1 on the desktop, W2KSP4 Server. Using folder redirection for My Documents, Application data and the Desktop, users end up with a hidden RECYCLER subdirectory on their home drives on the server. Additionally this folder is hidden to them, and of course if I try and open it I get my own recycle bin contents! I am guessing it appears there because the Recycler itself sits on the desktop, and get redirected to the network share. the problem is that these RECYCLER directories are starting to fill up our file servers (40,000 users), and we are trying to find a way of either preventing the recycle bin from replicating on to the server or some simple way of clearing it down through policy (disabling it is not an option unfortunately, as is a logoff script).
Has anyone found a cunning way to get round this redirection issue?
Any ideas/help would be MUCH appreciated, as I have been dropped in it. Again.

As you use roaming profiles, why dont you leave the desktop in the profile - then problem wont appear? you can set which folders are roamed via policy (i'll need to dig out the exact reg key)
Additionally it will make performance better as the desktop folder wont be on te network.
- Just as an aside - if you have roaming profiles, why do you redirect the application data and the desktop - login will be faster, but application performance will be slower?
