Question : abnormal network activities in windows xp

My OS = Windows XP Pro, SP2.
I have just formatted and reinstall the OS last week, before that, when i browse net, download, etc is fast (for me), but after format and reinstall, it became very slow, and my browser always return 'cannot find server,' etc..
I take a look in my network activity and i noticed that, even when i'm not surfing/ downloading, the sent packet is very high.. its like my pc keep sending out something. I have scan my pc with Kaspersky Anti-virus with the latest virus database, and it detects nothing.
I also took a look in my task manager, and i noticed that i actually have more than 5 svchost.exe running and one of them taking out a lot of resources, and when i terminated that particular svchost.exe, the sent packet activity stopped.
i'm not sure what had happened to my pc, i scan with antivirus, ad-aware, etc but found nothing wrong, i even disabled the Automatic Updates..

Most likely Automatic windows updates. Stop the service or change to manual and see.
