Question : Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Problem (not virus)
|
|
I have checked through the database using the solutions detailed and still did not manage to solve this problem. I am not a very technically inclinced person so I would need simple instructions (*_*)
For some reason, after connecting to the internet (dial-up), I would get the message
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a Problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
Error Signature szAppName: szAppVer:0.0.0.0. szModName:unknown sZModver:0.0.0.0. offset:00000000 c:\DOCUME~1/user1\LOCALS~1\TEMP|wer26.TMP.DUR00/SVCHOAR.EXE.MDMP C:\DOCUME~1/user1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER26.tmp/dir00\appcompat.txt
After that, I would not be able to surf the internet or download my mails and I have to restart the computer. This happened quite frequently although on some lucky occassions, I managed to surf the internet for hours without encountering the error. However, there are also occassions where I would encounter the error after surfing the internet for 5 minutes or so.
I KNOW it is not a virus --- I have scanned the computer repeatedly using both Norton as well as online services (e.g. Panda). I am pretty paranoid over viruses and after using computers for 7 years, none of my computers have ever been infected.
I do not have Zone Alarm -- I understand from various posts that it could be one of the reasons for the Win32 services problem.
I would really appreciate it if you could solve my problem.
Thank You!

Answer : Generic Host Process for Win32 Services Problem (not virus)

Hi erestor,
First of all, install a firewall right away, you seem to be running without one. Then... remember most virusses will try to disable a virusscanner :o)
The SVCHOAR.EXE is NOT a windows systemfile, it could be a trojan of some kind or some piece of ad/spyware so you'll have to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Another thing to do for you is install as many patches from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com as possible as it also seems your computer isn't up-to-date with it's patches.
Greetings,
LucF
