Question : Replacing Exchange Server with new hardware

Hi

I have an exchange server running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard edition and exchange 2003.

Its running on extremely old hardware and i have bought a new server to replace it.  The new server is also running Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard edition and exchange 2003.

What is the quickest and easiest way to install the new server and move all the accounts across with mimimal fuss?

thanks

Answer : Replacing Exchange Server with new hardware

It isn't necessary to do that - provided you keep the old Exchange Server running after you have migrated everything off, then when users open Outlook for the first time after the change, it will connect to the old server, realise the mailbox no longer exists there and locate the mailbox on the new server. The account configuration in Outlook will be automatically updated for the new server name, meaning after a week or so, you can safely remove the Exchange role from that server.
