Question : Boot Disk / Restore Disk headache

Where to start?  I SHOULD have enough tools at my disposal to take care of this problem myself, but I keep hitting roadblocks.  Normally, I have a ghost boot disk that I use to connect to our network and dump an image using Ghost Server 7.0.

Unfortunately, I don't have the NIC drivers I need on this boot disk, so I improvise.  I installed an IDE HD (which I had to reload while installed to make it work) to boot off of, and used ghost 8 to dump an image of the SATA HD onto my USB HD.  I used my bootimg.bin via NERO 7 to create my new boot DVD with image onboard.  Once the new drive is imaged, it's stuck in a loop.  When it tries to load windows, it reboots.  I figure I missed something in the MBR, so I go back and rebuild the image... only now it's too big to use with the NERO DVD (boot-ISO) format... and oddly enough, Ghost 8 creates one file larger than 2GB, but Ghost 7 creates two files (one right at 2GB, the other just under 2GB)... so I pull out my old PE Builder boot disk, connect to the server, dump the image (using ghost 8) which creates the 2 files I need.

Using the new image, I create a new disk with my bootimg.bin, and everything works wonderfully until it says I need a newer version of ghost to load the image.  Swap out ghost.exe on the boot disk... ghost 8 won't work in DOS mode it tells me.

Unfortunately, I do not have my old PE Builder .bin file or I would just add the images to it and burn a new one.  Please, if anyone has any suggstions, I'm at my wits end.

If someone can tell me how to edit .bin files, I would gladly do so... or if you can tell me how to smush my boot disk together with the image files, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jason

*I do have Alcohol 120%, but after I mount the drive and try to copy the image files over, it gives me an error claiming the files in th ISO I created are read only.

Answer : Boot Disk / Restore Disk headache

Consider http://www.netbootdisk.com/ it has support for almost 100 NICs it can be setup to boot off CD get a DHCP address then launch ghost.exe via a network share and put you right into a ghost console in about a minute.

Or build a bootcd with a ghost plugin. It has many other benefits as well... http://www.ubcd4win.com/
