Question : Configuring xDSL with PPPoE in Red Hat 9
|
|
I've installed Red Hat 9 in a machine that will be configured as a proxy/firewall to provide Internet access (via ADSL) for a small internal network. The problem is that I'm having troubles when attempting to configure the ADSL connection. My ISP requieres PPPoE for the link.
I already try to setup a new "xDSL connection" (wich is an option in RH9) and I configured with my account info properly, but I keep getting an error when I try to activate the interface (ppp0 <--> eth0).
I've been looking aroud in the web, and I see that maybe I need Roaring Penguin (or similar) for PPPoE support. I've not tried this yet, but anyway I think that RH9 support PPPoE without need of any external package, is that true?
In short, I need to know if RH9 support xDSL/PPPoE out of the box, or I need to install any other pakage. In any case I'll appreciate any information you can give me to get this work.
Thanks!
PS: The ADSL connection is working fine, because I've tested it with a W2K machine.

PAP is doing the password exchange with your provider. That is what it means by:
pppoe[4474]: PPP session is 3444 pppd[4473]: PAP authentication failed
it's telling you i connected, and started ppp with a PID 3444 then i sent the name/pass and it failed to authenticate me
