Question : Questions regarding an Exchange 2003 swing migration to new hardware

I plan on doing a swing migration to upgrade my Exchange hardware.  I'm currently running Exchange 2003 SP1 Enterprise Edition on Windows 2003 SP1 standard.  When I build the new server does it have to be the same OS version and patch level as the existing Exchange server?  Does Exchange need to be at the same patch level as well?  Or can I  build the new box with the lastest Windows 2003 R2 and Exchange 2003 SP2 and patches and not worry about it?

Thanks !

Answer : Questions regarding an Exchange 2003 swing migration to new hardware

I would suggest upgrading to Exchange 2003 SP2 before you start.
There are some changes to the way that it works for replication that will makes things easier to migrate.

Otherwise the new server needs to be the same or higher before you start.

Simon.
