Question : Protect sheet is disabled in Excel
|
|
Hi
I have a quick question regarding Excel 2000. For some reason when I go to Tools->Protection, both the protect sheet and protect workbook menu items are disabled.
This happens whether I pick an existing workbook, or create a new one. I have not used VBA to disable anything. I have ensured that there are no add-ins installed.
Does anyone know why these two items are disabled?
Thanks

Odd behaviour.
Have you checked to see if there is an xlt or xla sheet in the XLSTART directory. Remove or move them and open Excel again. Create and save a new worksheet. Test inside this worksheet whether the options are still greyed-out.
If they are, there might be a more serious prob.( corrupted DLL perhaps / possible fix repair install with the office CD )
If not,.. the xla or xlt loaded at startup has some code that disables menu items in it and I'd recommend deleting them from the HD altogether.
