Question : Why is Exchange 2007 Hub Transport Server not sending via the smarthost I added to the send connector?

I have a few Exchange servers where I have configured a send connector on the hub transport to use a smarthost. My problem is that even though this is configured the hub transport server seems to be sending mail directly. Any ideas on what i'm missing?

The smarthost is valid, and is an outside provider i use with other systems, mostly Exchange 2003 which work fine. For some reason the 2007 hub transports are not working. I see the messages being delivered directly when i veiw a message header, and some are getting bounced as teher is no ptr record for the ip of the hub.
