Question : Can not install new programs with out "AIM Install" Dialog Prompt
I have a windows pc my children use which runs XP
Recently, my son installed AIM. Now whenever I try to install any program (either by CD or Download), a dialog box pops up and prompts me to install "AIM". If I select "Cancel", the dialog box closes, but I receive no further prompts to install the software I want to install. If I select "Continue", it appears to be installing AIM, then exits! Because of this, I can't install any new programs on my PC.
I suspect it is a virus or malware, but I ran a complete scan and the only thing that turned up was a couple of tracking Cookies. I can't download and run "spybot" or similar software since I can not install any new programs!
I went to add/remove programs and removed AIM 6, AIM 6.0, and any other AOL or AIM related programs I found, and rebooted. Still no luck.
Any suggestions on how to completey get rid of AIM??
Thanks!
Laura
