Question : bad_pool_caller error when loading os

A friend bought a new EMachines W3609 in Feb. 2007. It was loaded with Vista Home Basic. She kept getting
"No OS" so she took it to authorized EMachines service while under warranty...in MARCH...picked it up today
and it still doesn't work. I tried loading EMachines Vista Home Basic disc, but it said couldn't load os because file was missing or corrupt..looked at DVD and it was cracked and scratched badly. SO.....I ran disk manager...zero filled the hard drive..ande started to load Windows XP Home...It stopped with the error
"bad_pool_caller"     Is this a hardware related message? BIOS?? RAM?
