Question : How do I debug XP Pro freezing

I have XP pro on a Fujitsu S6410 laptop.  I t works perfectly in safe mode with networking.
In normal mode a couple of scenarios happen

1. It boots (or seems to) but doesnt respond to mouse clicks on desktop icons and the start bar (the one at the bottom) doesnt come up, so I cant do anything CTRL ALT DELETE also does not work

2. I get the BSOD either during boot or awaiting my logon details. Error is 0x0000007e with no further info.

I have looked at event logs and boot logs but no luck from my point of view.

I cant load windows defender updates in safe mode (maybe its not a safe mode thing) so I cannot check for latest ad/spy ware.

Also I cant load Zone Alram Security Suite..a repeat download. Page not available

Also it is cold and very windy and I am getting depressed with all this.

Fujitsu recovery apparantly wipes everything. I would rather not resort to that as backing up non XP Pro stuff would requie mega backup disks

Answer : How do I debug XP Pro freezing

I would recommend scanning with Malwarebytes' Antimalware:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Download the trial version, update it fully, then click on "Perform a quick scan".  Show results then click on "remove selected". Post the log here.

It would also be a good idea to reset your hosts file:

Good luck!!!
