Question : WIN XP filmstrip thumbnail generator? Windows bug?

This is a relly really strange thing.

I've donwloaded a picture from the internet (a jpg), with some people on it, but the faces were hiden with white squares (probably made with some picture editor), the funniest thing is that in the windows filmstrip preview mode, i can see the faces (and all the parts of the picture covered with white color) perfectly! nothing is covered in the thumbnail preview, however when i open the actual picture with Corel, my browser or even MSPaint i see the picture the way it should be (whith the faces hidden with white marks).

So i guess, that the windows filmstrip thumbnail generator uses some kind of sotware to generate these thumbnails that somehow waves this colour on it (probaly some mas this software doesn't recognize?) and shows the actual image, i dont know really whats happening, but i want to know what software uses windows to generate the thumbnail so i can see the picure full-size with it :)

Answer : WIN XP filmstrip thumbnail generator? Windows bug?

This happens quite often !

You can recreate this problem easily if you download a picture and the download is corrupted
or if your hard disk has bad sectors and a portion of the image is destroyed...
Jpeg does not support layers of course.

The answer to your question is that jpeg files actually contain two separate images!
One is the thumbnail which is at the start of the file, and the other is the full size picture.

There is no way you can restore the original picture.
You can resize the thumbnail picture ofcourse after you extract it but you wont like the results :)

Hope this helps :)
