Question : Clients recieve poor response time when accessing Dentrix " Dental Office Software Database"
|
|
Hi Experts, I have a customer that is using Dentrix 10.5, a piece of dental software meant to handle all aspects of a dental practice, with one 2003 Standard Edition Server that has 2gb of ram , 250GB mirror drives and plenty of cpu speed. The network is set up fine and runs well on a 100Mb network switch. The response time inside Dentrix begins to CRAWL and simply viewing different pages in a datagrid takes almost 5 seconds to update the screen between pages (unacceptable). I had Norton corp installed and I thought it was the realtime protection on norton causing the slow response time, but I went with McAfee and the users reported back that they don't see much of a difference.
Now i'm not sure if it's a setting with in Dentrix that will speed it up or a setting in McAfee like realtime protection. There is another office that one of the employees works part time with "that I don't support, the office that is" and she says they run McAfee and they have no delays whats so ever. So besides the fact that it gives slow response time it's making me look bad! Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Answer : Clients recieve poor response time when accessing Dentrix " Dental Office Software Database"

Correct. I've seen some places go fine with real time virus scanning enabled. I've seen most slow to the crawl you're describing, especially if they power off their computers at night and they have a full scan set to go during that period. Usually, upon logging in, it will immediately run and slow the computers down for hours. On central servers, especially ones with any kinds of databasing application, if the virus scanning is actively scanning the files being opened or close, it can slow to a crawl as it scans multiple instances of huge files.
