Question : Hosts file problem - virus / malware

I have clearly been infected by some kind of virus / malware which appears to have done several things - the most serious that I can identify are
- It appears to have blocked access to any programme needed to identify and/or access drives at low level - eg disk manager, truecrypt and seagate disk manager which I use for part of my back up
- it has also caused an issue with the Local Hosts file redirecting to web pages other than the ones I am trying to visit - particularly support/virus protection sites etc.  At first I thought this was only affecting internet explorer but now it is happening in firefox as well

Spybot S&D has identified
Win32.Agent.pz
Win32.Zbot

The registry values on the first relate to Evansoft Coomputer repair which is a programme I have used without any problems for a couple of years and so I suspect the second is part of the problem.

My more immediate concern is with the low level access to drives which means I am not sure that I would be able to restore my hard drive back up - I also cannot check when seagage manager stopped running my nightly back up of all data

Spybot appears to fix the errors but they return on the next scan so clearly they have not. Symantec has not even picked up the problem! Superanitspyware reccomended on one forum came up with nothing other than a few tracking cookies
