Question : Event ID 2005 - PerfNet

I have a Windows 2003 Std SP2 server which at every startup posts an Even ID 2005 error in the Application log:

Source: PerfNet
Description: Unable to read performance data from the Server service. No Server performance data will be returned in this sample. The error code returned is in first DWORD in the Data section. The IOSB.Status is in the second DWORD and the IOSB.Information is the third DWORD.

Everything seems to be working OK - I just want to make sure that this error isn't indicative of some hidden problem. My best guess is that the server service simply doesn't have enough time to start up before PerfNet wants to start keeping track of it (possbily because of a resource intensive application we have installed on it.) Any other theories?

Thanks,

Jamie

Answer : Event ID 2005 - PerfNet

I agree with you, looks like this is just a timing problem during startup.

PerfNet is the "Network Performance Monitor"

You could use exctrlst.exe (Extensible Counter Listing Tool) from the Windows resource kit  and disable the counter if you don't use it.
