Question : Folder Shares on Windows Server 2003 - Concurrent Connection Limit Reached

I am running a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition box where ~35 users at any given time will be connected to a specific folder share we had created for file sharing purposes.

When roughly 30 people connect to the folder share, it will give any other user that attempts to connect from that point on an error message stating that the 'Network drive or path which you are trying to access has reached it's concurrent connection limit.' I am paraphrasing the error message, but it is very close to that.

I understand how to modify and work with connection limitations from the properties portion of the folder share. I changed the limit to both 'Maximum' and then tried outrageous connection limits, like 500 or 1000. The system seemed to have no problem accepting these parameters, but it doesn't change the number of connections that is allowed.

This error message comes up constantly for my company and it is becoming quite an nuisance, as well as a deterrent from being able to access work related resources and it is severely crippling productivity for the users unable to access the shared resources.

Does anyone have any insight on this issue?

How many Licenses do you have on that server? CAL?
Goto Control Panel -> Administration Tools -> Licensing

I will also depend on what option you installed with, client CALs or Server Cals...

Do you have the server optimised for background services, rather than programs.
This is in control Panel -> System -> performance

Are you certain it is the share that is the problem, not an MS Access DB problem or another user application?
