Question : Questions about Raid 1 setup

I have 1 windows 2003 server. The motherboard is a Intel Entry server Board SE7221BK1-E

It has integrated raid on it. It previously has raid 1 on it, but the raid was broke awhile back.

The question I have is can I just change the settings to add raid to a existing os. i do not want to reformat the disks if at all possible.

Also if I clone the drive, then build the raid , can I restore the the raid with no big issues? I will be using acronis for the cloning.

also any links to help documents would be helpful too.

Answer : Questions about Raid 1 setup

When you boot the server you should be able to see the status of the drives.  Replace the drive that is corrupted or not working, and you should see the Raid status change to BUILDING or REBUILDING or REPAIRING (or something similar).  When you boot into Windows after this, you will probably not notice the rebuilding process.

If your onboard or 3rd part RAID utility doesn't show which hard drive is at fault, you can power down, remove a drive, power up, and see what your RAID utility shows for disk status.  Do this until you find the faulty disk, then replace that disk.

Replacing the disk should initiate the rebuild, but you may have to manually start it yourself.
