Question : Services being stopped

I have scanned a computer with Win XP sp2 with every possible AV, AS, AA program possible.  After removing some minor problems I am left with a larger problem.  I can't get Windows Updates (automatically or manually) from Microsoft.  I can download each one individually, but it's not practical.

When I look at running services I can see that windows updates, Background intelligent transfers and other services have been stopped.  When I manually restart them they stay started for only a few seconds.

One last thing is an error message on start up indicating Generic Host Processes for Windows Services has been stopped.

Any thoughts?

Bob

Answer : Services being stopped

Hi Bob,
Can you tell us what errors are in the event log?
(Click Start, Run, type eventvwr.msc, click OK).
You could also try System File Checker, by entering sfc /scannow at the run dialog.
Regards,
John.
