Question : No Sound on Vista - SoundMax

Did a clean install of Vista to an HP xw4100 workstation.  No sound comes from speakers.  Device manager shows device working properly.

I'm not totally familiar with Vista yet, but under the sounds in the DM, only "SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio" shows (whereas in XP there were numerous codecs and things).

Trying to update the driver reveals the most current version (5.12.1.4070) is installed.

Answer : No Sound on Vista - SoundMax

Actually just got it to work!  I searched HP's website for "Vista xw4100" and the first hit was about no sound after upgrading.  (I always start with EE and have never had success with HP's forums).

The last post gave the answer: Download and unzip the sound files for the xw6200.  Update the driver manually, no auto searching or choosing, through device manager (the auto install will fail).

Now my internal speaker is sounding sounds.
