Question : Transfer files and settings from old hard drive to new PC without old PC
|
|
The motherboard on my PC seemingly went bad. I have ordered a different PC, but I wish to transfer the files and settings to the new PC. I have an IDE hard drive to USB cable adapter that I have used to access the hard drive. Can I somehow use this to transfer files and settings to the new PC from the old hard drive? If so, how would this be done?

ok here is what you will do: copy c:\documents and settings\username_of_the_account_you_want_to_use from your old HD to c:\documents and settings\ of your new computer
go to www.forensit.com and download "user profile wizard".
run profwiz.exe under join the domain, use the name of your computer in the drop down menu if you are not on a domain. under enter the account name use the name of your local account name.
on the next screen, check show unassigned profiles box you will then see SSID...... and in the right column you will see the path to the folder you copied from your old HD, select it.
click on next and it will bind your user to your "old" profile
This tool works very well and i've been in that situation before and it worked well for me. Give it a try! If you have any question just ask.
