Question : Event ID 4321 and 8003
|
|
I have just installed a new Domain Controller running windows 2000 server with active directory. All the workstations are getting the error 4321 when logging on.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NetBT
Event Category:None
Event ID: 4321
Date:
Time:
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description: The name "main :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 10.0.0.20. The machine with the IP address 10.0.0.1 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.
And the server is reporting a 8009 event
Event ID: 8003 Description: The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport . The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.
Now if I stop the Computer Browser service both errors disappear. I have read hundreds of solutions for this but most say clear the duplicate entry from wins. As I said above I am using Active Directory so I don t have wins install.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem, I have tried delete and reinstalling DNS and DHCP with no luck

Answer : Event ID 4321 and 8003

right. computers are set by default to be members of a workgroup, not a domain. since the computer browser service is started on your clients, they are trying to become the master browser. i would disable the service on your clients and leave it on your DC. if not it may cause a little extra network traffic from the computers. if you are fine with that, disregard the messages.
