Question : Recent Places shows no folders in Vista Ultimate 32

In Vista Ultimate "Recent Places" in the Open File dialog never shows folders that have been visited, saved to, or read from. There is no entry for "Recent Places" in the %userprofile%/links folder which is where I thought it was meant to be. Suggestions, please?
