Question : Vista and SLI Config option not showing anywhere on the Nvidia Control Panel
|
|
Hi, I just installed Vista (after fighting 5 days) crash after crash, BSOD... you name it, to find out that I can't have my two cards in SLI (Geforce 7900 GT) working ; they are installed, but I can't find how to enable SLI under Vista like I was just able under XP before upgrading. Before you ask: Yes, I have the latest driver from Nvidia and the selector is in dual card position, I used to have this config under XP with no problem at all. Device Manager.. just fine... two cards showing.... This is not my rig but my wife's so any help could be good since she is a hard core gamer and she is driving me insane....LOL. I'm N+ so you can go technical it won't matter. Thanks. Specs: A8N SLI Deluxe 2GB RAM 250 GB HD Windows Vista 32 bit.

The reason you can't get SLI to work is because Nvidia has not released SLI capable drivers for GeForce 6 and 7 cards. SLI only works on the 8800 series in the 100.65 driver (the latest WHQL driver). This is from the driver release notes
"DirectX 9 and OpenGL NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs, and DirectX 10 NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 8800 GPUs will be available in a future driver."
You will find it on page 9 under changes under 100.59, here http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/100.65/100.65_ForceWare_Release_Notes.pdf.
The latest latest driver 101.41 beta supports SLI for G60 and G70 cards. If you are using these drivers and can not get SLI to work, i recommend you wait until Nvidia releases the next WHQL driver. SLI simply isn't a viable option on vista right now.
You can get 101.41 here, http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_101.41.html
