Question : Install an non-windows OS using RIS / PXE?

Just a Wondering..

In a network where developers work with either windows and or linux to do their day to day job, microsoft has invented sollutions for us to keep this envoirment manageble. Along these tools we have one verry interesting tool called RIS "Remote Installation Services" wich uses a dhcp PXE boot to remotely install a new OS and or a clean image to the client using that option.

In a network where developers might have the wish to either develop in Windows/ Linux / Unix and or some other OS i was wondering if windows was / is able to use RIS to install an other platform like linux.

so question here..

Is windows ris able to install a LINUX / UNIX platform using RIS and or is the windows PXE edditable to support a special linux PXE boot/install?

greets and thanks

You may have some issues getting RIS to work to deploy "other" operating systems.  Microsoft does have another free product that you can use to deploy any type of OS and it is called Automated Deployment Services (ADS).  ADS works just like Ghost or Altiris, it will suck up whatever is on the workstation and image it to its server. I will say that it is a v1.0 product so it is not the easiest to use but it does a great job.  I use it all the time to deploy operating systems.  Here is a general link for it.  -
