Question : Windows 3.1 disk

I have a problem when I try to boot my 486/25 system running Windows 3.1. I always get a message that progman.exe will not load properly. I have installation disks but they are on 5.25" floppies and I no longer have that drive type. Does anyone know where I can purchase 3.5" floppies of Win 3.1? (by the way my setup.ini files are also corrupt so no hope there)

Answer : Windows 3.1 disk

All you have to do is copy your 5 1/4" disquettes onto 3 1/2" disketters. Just a normal file copy. Doesn't need to be a diskcopy. Since the  3 1/2" diskettes can hold 1.44MB and the 5 1/4" diskettes can hold 1.2MB, there is available space for the copy. Be sure also to copy the labels of the diskettes by using the LABEL command. (if you issue a DIR command from DOS on the original diskettes you'll see their labels in the very begginning the DIR listing, then you insert the 3 1/2" diskette containing the respective copy and issue LABEL to type in the same label from the original diskette).

If you don't want to bother about copying labels you can also format your 3 1/2" diskettes with 1.2MB capacity with this command:
    FORMAT A: /F:144  (supposing A: is the 3 1/2" drive)
After formatting your 3 1/2" diskettes as 1.2MB, you issue DISKCOPY to copycat the original 5 1/4" diskettes onto the 3 1/2" diskettes.

Thus you have these two ways of preparing a set of installation disks on 3 1/2" diskettes. After that, all you have to do is run SETUP from them.
