Question : SMTP messages stuck in Exchange Queue. Suspect DNS issues.
|
|
I'm missing something in our Exchange/Server configuration. Over the weekend we upgraded to an MPLS network configuration, using new routers, switches, and a new data T1.
After getting the bugs worked out with network connectivity, we are seeing some problems with the primary DC, which is the primary internal DNS server and the Exchange server (small company).
I can surf the internet on the server, but only certain pages. Some web pages will not open. Some SMTP traffic is flowing out, but not all of it. It baffles me that some traffic will come through but not all of it.
If any other details are needed, let me know, and I will post them ASAP.
Thanks in advance!

Hrm. If they're on the same subnet, I assume they are using the same default gateway, which should ensure the same routing for both the workstation and server. To back up a bit, it's a good idea to make sure that the workstation is pointed to the DC for DNS, and the DC is pointed to itself (both using its new ip if it changed). If the workstation and DC share the same gateway and have DNS configured correctly, I would check out the KB referenced above by Chris-Dent (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828731). I've never run across it in production but see where it could cause problems as you describe (and you are behind new routing and firewall equipment). Let me know what you find out.
