Question : How to write a dynamic page that updates itself without reloading the page?

I have been working on a small piece of code, and I'm having some problems (see attached code).

I think the problem lies in the use of the " . I have tried using \" and """ (3 "), but neither of those work, any ideas on what I should write to make it work?
