Question : Windows 2000 printer sharing

I have a HP 6L printer connected to a computer running Windows 2000. Problem is that the Windows 95 machine cannot 'see' that printer. Help said that I should install additional drivers 'for Windows 95 and 98'. I choose '[ x ]Intel   Windows 95 or 98' and clicked OK. Then it asked for 'Windows 2000 Server CDROM' (funny part is that I have Professional) so I pointed out my installation files and it was ok. But then it suddenly said that "The file 'PCL5ERES.DLL' on Windows 95 or 98 is needed." and asked where that file is. I found one through ftpsearch and it was accepted. Then came the part where I'm stuck right now: Copy error Setup cannot copy the file HPLJ6L.GPD. Ensure that the location specified is correct or change it and insert 'Windows 95 or 98' in the drive you specify" I cannot find that file anywhere. Tried ftpsearch, looked on HP 6L driver diskettes, looked inside windows 98 cab files. Nada...

So... Where can I get the files needed to share HP 6L printer on Windows 2000 to a machine running Windows 95?

Recently, I've encountered the same problem with my copy of W2K Profesionall and my LaserJet2100M (PS).
We have a small peer-to-peer network made of PCs running Win98 in our office and the printer is attached dirctly to my PC (running win2000), and not via a JetDirect.

If you allow me I'll spare you the brief history.

1. Windows installed (almost) successfully.
2. In the Printers folder, though, the printer was listed and installed as HP LaserJet 2100M PCL. Since I use it mostly for prepress preflight of my documents, I needed the PostScript drivers for it.
3. Needles to say I have always been very suspicious about HP printer installation procedure, because they never use the standard routine in Windows, and always ask you to put the CD-ROM in the drive.
4. After about half an hour spent in effort to install both the Win2000 and Win95/98 driver, i encountered the same problem as you, chasing files up and down, and eventually yhe install was unsuccessfull.
5. Finaly, I tried the original installation procedure from the HP installation CD-ROM and... guess... it worked.

The installer put the NT4.0 PostScript Driver Files on Win2000, and the asked if I want to install the additional drivers needed by win95/98 workstations to access the printer. I said yes, and the printer worked both for my computer and for the rest of the network.

if you have the original installation disk try -- using it.

So, I suggest:
1. Delete the printer that Win2000 originally installed.
2. And run the original installation for your printer using NT4.0 drivers.

I apologize if it is not an answer to your question, but it worked perfectly in my case.
