Question : Hey, my Quake 4 won't wun under Vista, what gives?

I just installed Quake 4 in Vista and the screen jumps all over the place and it won't play.  What is wrong?

Answer : Hey, my Quake 4 won't wun under Vista, what gives?

Quake 4 is built on the OpenGL standard, rather than the Direct3D standard that MS is making a push for with Vista. Originally, OpenGL wasnt supposed to be supported. However, MS reversed that decision in 2006 and decided to include OpenGL support, but performance under OpenGL applications is still pretty poor. I havent been able to get Quake 4, Prey or Doom 3 working yet on Vista, but I have managed to get Jedi Academy working.

I would suggest getting the latest drivers (7.2 from AMD's site)

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/common-vista32.html

This enabled me to get Jedi Academy working, but I havent yet tried the others
