Question : Non Microsoft error-check utility

I might be waking up from a dream...
But about 3 weeks ago I was looking around for a error checking utility, like is in XP, (scandisk whatever you want to call it)...
I had googled a bunch of stuff and found a scandisk utility for XP that has an ISO image and self boots...
I downloaded it, burned a CD, and tried it on a couple of computers...
Seems to have worked great...
Here's my problem...I can't find the CD I made, nor the file I downloaded, nor can I find where I got it...(this is the "maybe I'm dreaming" part)...
But I was thinking maybe someone else was found it and knows where to find it...
I was looking to find perhaps a better error checking utility that XP has...maybe something that can be run independtly from rebooting XP...and hopefully faster...
Any ideas???
