(2, 72GB hard drives).

* Original server HP DL380 I.

Install window 2003 from HP CD.
Install window 2003 R2 from HP CD.
INstall window SP2 from MS website.
Install patches & security update from MS website.

Create an image to an External hard drive.

*Destination server HP DL380 II, same hard drives, and same RAID 1+0.

About Symantec Ghost screen (v8.2).
clicK OK
Click Local -> Disk -> from Image
choose Source (external hard drive )
choose destination (internal hard drive )
click ok, overwrite the hard drive. ok
finish the image.

set boot from local hard drive ,

and it shows :

Attempting boot from Hard drive (C:)
Error loading operating system

I checked C: driver (destination Harddrive HP DL380);  The image was loaded( 10 folders and 9 files, like the source/original hard drive and external hard drive), but it doesn't boot OS.

I do From Image to Image or Disk to Disk, both have "error loading operating system."  or  (I used a window 2003 boot disk from original server to destination server, but the window 2003 boot disk and ghost. exe  don't see the External harddrive.  (ghost32. exe don't work with window 2003 boot disk when boot up. )) or ( I try to ghost back the same server, but I have the same error message).   Could you please tell me what should I try next?

Thanks,

Answer : Norton Ghost image 8.2 and Window 2003 on HP DL380 & RAID

Norton Ghost is not a proper tools to migrate your server image since Ghost is solely using for desktop image without RAID and controller. Therefore, the image has been generated from Ghost may not include the boot sector, MBR, or controller drivers and things getting more complicated when you try to repair install it. Two options for you:
- You can try to repair install the server completely with Windows 2003 cd boot up. Hit F6 to install controller driver while windows scans. At the prompt "to hit R to repair", you don't do it. Instead, you hit Enter and F8. When it ask you to repair Windows on second time, hit R. It's a complete procedure and I will not work all the time.
- Second option is using third party software (not Norton Ghost) to create and restore image such as: Acronis True Image Server, Paragon Partition Server, and Symantec BE Recovery System Server.
