Question : Unable to install drivers for my network adapter, is a rebuild of XP required?
I have a pc with win xp pro, i am attempting to install a gigabit ethernet adapter. I have installed the hardware and when I boot up the PC windows detects "pci device" but when I go to install the drivers I get the message "the specified location does not contain information about the hardware".
It is definitely the right driver as I have installed the same card on another 11 computers in the same building with the same operating system. I have tried 3 cards in this PC incase it was a hardware fault of the network adapter but they are all the same. I have also tried installing the software package for the adapter from the CD and still no luck. I have uninstalled the software and tried it all from scratch too. Any ideas?

Is there an onboard NIC in the unit? Is that the one for which you're trying to install the driver? If it's not, has it been disabled in the BIOS?
