Question : The sparrow.sys problem - Adaptec AHA 154x/164x Driver for Win XP
|
|
Hi There, i have a problem closed to this discussed under: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_20586357.html#8338397
I've bought used RAM (from) Micron and used it together with my Apacer RAM (both DDR 266). The solution from the thread above did not work with me. system is bootig, but stops after a few seconds. on reinstallation, the error "sparrow.sys is corrupted" occurs. As far as I know is the sparrow.sys a driver file for for scsi adapters (which I do not have at all). I tried to get an original driver from adaptec site, including the files sparrow.sys and oemsetup.inf, all made for win NT (driver for win XP is obviously not available). I restartet the system and tried to install the drivers by pressing F6 while installing. The installation routine says, that "txtsetup.oem" can not be found. So i renamed "oemsetup.inf" to "txtsetup.oem". Now, the installation routine says, the file "txtsetup.oem" is corrupt in line 93. Line 93 contains the data "read-syms Identification". Of course i tried to find a driver for win XP, but nothing can be found. This is the final point of experiencing with this problem. On the corrupted machine is my Master of Arts examina word, so i really don't like to format C: and istall another operating system like win 98 or win2000.
Some Data of the machine: Epox 8rda Motherboard with Nforce2 Chipset, AMD Athlon XP 2400, now 254 MB Apacer 266-DDR RAM, Geforce 4 Ti4200 and a Quantum Plus AS 7200 IDE storage interface.
Please help!

Also, make sure your BIOS firmware is up to date (again, check the manufacturer's web site), and if it has a setting for something like Plug and Play OS, try changing it to whatever is isn't now. It should probably be set to "Yes" for XP.
