Question : Backup SBS 2003 Exchange
I have installed a SBS 2003 server. SBS by default seems to backup everything. What do I need top backup to ensure that no one looses their emails/contacts/callendars
and public folders. Will MS backup do this or do I need to spend even more money on a specific piece of backup software. If I do need to buy more software, what is best?
Thanks,
David
Answer : Backup SBS 2003 Exchange
You need to backup the exchange storage group or groups,
These are included in the backup if you use server 2003 full system backup, You may run into problems if you have the exchange databases on the system drive.
To work around this,
Method 1: Perform Separate Backup Operations
Configure separate backup operations for the System State and the Exchange Server 2003 databases. After the System State backup is complete, the storage group is unfrozen and may be backed up successfully.
Method 2: Move the Exchange Server 2003 Database Files
Move the Exchange Server 2003 databases to a drive other than the operating system drive. This permits you to back up both the Exchange Server 2003 databases and the System State information at the same time.
