Question : Xp fails, other network printers print
|
|
I have a small home network, consisting of a Windows XP device and a Windows Vista device, which dual boots on a laptop with Linux Ubuntu 8.04. Also, my wife has an Apple laptop computer, and all used to network normally and print normally on a Brother HL-2070N printer.
For no reason that I am able to discern suddenly none of the devices were able to print. I checked connections, changed cables, changed physical ports on the router and switch device and I entered the printer dialogue on all the devices except the Apple computer, but made no significant changes that I am able to recall. Whatever I did, if anything, I certainly did not duplicate it on the Vista and Linux operating system. Again, for no reason that I could discern, all devices except the Windows XP device (my major computer) were able to print.
I have removed the printer drivers from the XP device and reinstalled from the factory supplied CD, but that did not work, so I installed the latest driver from Brother. That did not work either. The other devices can print but my XP device cannot. I can print from the Linux operating system on the Windows Vista computer as well
I am able to print from the Windows XP computer utilizing the USB connection, but not the network connection, either wired or wireless.
In the networked printer properties dialogue under the ports tab I have tried the standard TCP/IP selections. I have tried using the TCP/IP (192.168.1.xx) of the router as well as those on the printer. And there is another entity that is described as a LAN manager, but that did not work either.
I will appreciate any advice
