Question : priv1.stm size, exchange 16 gb limit
|
|
I've reached the 16gb limit in exchange, I'm afraid. I deleted a bunch of email and other crap and was able through the use of the eseutil defrag, but just BARELY.
After running the defrage, my priv1.edb, it's not incredibly big... around 6 GB. What is taking up the majority of the space is the .STM file (around 10 GB for those of you playing along at home). I've deleted a lot of stuff out of personal mailboxes, but I have yet to see a significant reduction in the .STM film after running an offline defrag.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here? And I understand this file keeps smtp info, which makes it more of a mystery to me as to why it is so much larger than my .edb?
Also: How do I reduce the size of this .STM file? Is there a maintanance utility that I'm unable to find?
Is there any way to get out of this without having to purchase the Enterprise version of Exchange?

When you do a defrag of the edb, the stm file is automatically also defraged. It is possible for the stm file to be larger than the edb file. When message come into your server via SMTP, they are stored in the stm file and only the message header info is stored in the edb. The message isn't actually copied to the edb unless the user modifies the message. If you have a large amount of email coming into your server, as compared to mail sent internally, the stm file would be larger than the edb.
Unless you can delete a large amount of data and do another defrag, I think you should look at upgrading to the Enterprise edition.
