Question : Creating my own Toolbar & buttons

I once saw this custom toolbar that somebody had created in Excel using some sort of a macro. Basically, the toolbar had several drop-down type buttons that each had several different pictures on it. When selecting one of these pictures (actually on the drop-down I think just the name of the picture appeared) the image would be inserted into the selected cell. To install it, they somehow created a self-extracting file, that added the toolbar to Excel, and also placed a folder on the user's harddrive which contained all the image files.
Can anybody give me some guidance on how to do this. Preferable a step-by-step tutorial on creating toolbars or any sample code that would do this.
