Question : smb sharing not working (?)
|
|
I recently discovered that two seemingly unrelated problems were occurring.
One is that my Ricoh copier/scanners were no longer able to scan documents into windows shares.
The other is that a Linux server on my network can no longer connect to windows shares, and windows PCs cannot connect to shares on the Linux server. The server is Ubuntu 6.06.
Both of these were working fine until recently.
The only change that I think is relevant is that I installed Windows 2003 SP2 on both my domain controllers. My domain is set to 2003 funtional level. There are two DCs.

Ends up the problem - as I currently believe - was that W2K3 SP2 changed the security level in the Default Domain Controllers Policy to only accept NTLMv2 authentication requests.
When I added the following line to my smb.conf file, the Ubuntu server was once again able to open the WIndows shares.
The scanners have no setting that I can find to use NTLMv2, but we found a software workaround on them.
