Question : Windows Server 2003 R2 recieving "Generic host process for Win32 services encountered a problem and needs to close"
We started recieving the error message "Generic host process for Win32 services encountered a problem and needs to close" on our server and also clients computers. The services for "server" and "workstation" apparently chosen to change from started automatically to manual start in which we now have to manually change this every time we reboot. This also seems to be affecting users drive mappings as these services are being turned off on their own. There seems to be no connection between the users computers that are being affected by this problem (users are using XP Pro). I have attached the error log txt that was generated by the crash if that is of any help. The files were taken from our Windows Server 2003 R2.
Any help or direction to resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Answer : Windows Server 2003 R2 recieving "Generic host process for Win32 services encountered a problem and needs to close"
Turns out this was related to a worm roaming the network that our virus scanner had not picked up. The worm was gimme.a and caused all of the problems previously mentioned.
