Can a single SSL Certificate (Thawte) be used on multiple servers ?

The certificate is installed on an SBS2003 box for OWA but we have another 2003 box running Portal Server, can the existing certificate be used somehow or do we need another certificate ?

If the answer is no, could we port traffic through the SBS2003 server (utilising it's certificate) and then on to the Portal Server?

You can use a single certificate on multiple servers if all of the servers have the same DNS name, such as in a load balanced web server farm. You still need to pay Thawte for a certificate on each of the servers though, even though its the same certificate.

If you have ISA on your SBS Server, you could probably set it up as a reverse proxy to your Portal server, so all connections would go via the SBS Server, and you'd only need a single certificate. If you don't have ISA, you might be able to use Squid (Open Source proxy server) to function as a reverse proxy to the Portal Server - although I'm not sure that it would function properly with Portal Server. http://www.acmeconsulting.it/pagine/opensource/squid/squidnt25.htm
