Question : .nef thumbnail for explorer

I'm running xp professional, sp2.  I use nikon's nef file extension and I can't view the thumbnail previews in explorer.  I've tried a couple of different things I've found in blogs but still no luck.  I can always open them one at a time, but I want to be able to open a folder of say 200 pics and get a thumbnail preview of all my nef's just like I can a jpeg, gif, tiff, etc.  Any FOOLPROOF and TESTED methods of making this work?  thx!
