Question : How to share folder within a workgroup on a PC running Windows XP Pro SP2
|
|
In a workgroup of several PCs, On one PC, a folder was shared out for others in the workgroup to backup their files.
Right now, these users cannot access to the folder.
This PC is currently running Windows XP SP2.
I did not established when this happen, before or after the upgrade to Windows XP Pro SP2. I did however established that this OC, and others in the group were infested with Viruses that are cleaned. (using a PE Builder with later virus cleaner.)
On examing the PC, I made the following changes:
1. check and turn off Simple File Sharing 2 Set local security ploicis for item "Network access: Sharing and security model", to "Classic - local users authenticate as themselves".
After doing so, I still unable to access to the folder.
In fact access to this PC from another PC, I have an error right off, there is no logon screen at all.
Anyone faces similar problem?

You're more than welcome
Well, generally speaking, yes.
When you open up the computer in Network Neighborhood, it will show all non-hidden shares. At least it should. Hidden shares are any share preceded by a dollar sigh ($), the base ones with WinXP being Admin$, C$, and IPC$.
However, sometimes shares won't show up, for whatever reason. In those cases you can track down the share manually, or map to the drive.
Hopefully you can get things sorted.
